An Austrian Golfer?

Leela is now an austrian golfer. Its my fault, I decided to change posts during the winter and find myself working at a lovely course in Austrian Alps.

It has been a very difficult season for both of us. Leela could only be with me at the weekend and I was working round the clock establishing myself in my new post.

In all we only managed about 18 holes of golf and about five per cent of our normal training time together. Because of this I didn't really expect any real improvement in her game this year and just hoped that she could live up to the high standards that she had set for herself.

It was going to be a difficult season for her with the new course, new school, new friends etc and of course everyones eyes were on her.

Lets face it, a thirteen year old girl with a handicap of seven who's reputation had preceeded her arrival.

In fact, considering that she only played in about a dozen tournaments, her results were quite extraordinary.

Most of her rounds were in the seventies and she managed a 74 and two 73's on our fairly tricky par 72 course. This resulted in her dropping down to a four handicap and entering the elite class 1 (under 4.4) status.

She also won the ladies club championship but it wasn't as clear cut as might have been expected.

The 36 hole event took place at the beginning of October and the weather wasn't very kind to say the least. Leela was wondering if anyone would be there to challenge her and on the first day she didn't have to wait too long for an answer.

After the first day she found herself one shot behind and had to fight hard on the second day to take the title.

In all, a quite difficult season but as ever, Leela managed to perform very well indeed.

What I had already started calling an in between clubs sort of season turned out to be rather pleasing.
