Exceptional Golf
In order to give more exceptional golf lessons, I scoured the internet and came accross Peter Hudson. He is the president of the WGTF of Great Britain and Ireland and gladly he turned out to be an extraordinary golf coach.
There was one simple sentence on Peter's advertisement that caught my eye:
"By using strong awareness and concentration exercises I am able to vastly improve my students' learning levels."
So I phoned him and after a lenghthy conversation decided to enrol for one of his Master Teaching Professional seminars.
During that week I was tossed from pillar to post and Peter, after watching me giving a few lessons on the first day of the seminar, told me to forget everything that I thought I knew about how to teach this game.
I had been teaching for a long time and had given over 40,000 lessons. Surely there was some good stuff in there that I could use.
He told me that if I wanted to reach my goal of giving exceptional golf lessons, I could use all my experience of biomechanics etc but my present teaching method should be abandoned.
I was there first and foremost to improve my teaching techniques and decided, rather despondently at first, to hear him out and fully commit myself to his improvement seminar.
The seminar ran for eight days and I was guided towards a much better way of coaching golfers. Through using rather simple awareness and concentration exercises and having my students realise a much higher level of feedback for how they were swinging, I was able to achieve much better results from them.
Eureka!
This however was just the early stages of my new coaching skills and Peter sent me on my way with a large portfolio for further reading and research into this theme.
I, however, couldn't wait to get started on Juliana and I tested the new stuff on her. When I think back to my early attempts, the first thing that warmed my heart was the realisation that I would never again be able to upset my daughter with nastiness or cruelty during a lesson.
It just cannot be done, so good is the technique.
