An Experience TriangleLearning+Enjoyment+Performance= A great golfing experience. The (Golf) experience triangle will someday become the main process being used to teach this wonderful game. My mentors (Gallway, Shoemaker, Murphy etc) are still relatively unknown and, through coaches like myself, their theories and methods are getting onto the golf courses and driving ranges throughout the world. However, only about 3-5% of coaches are fully aware of and want to adopt this process but due to pressure from the golf students themselves, most of them are being forced to return to the more common method of teaching. This triangle is a model for managing and improving enjoyment, learning and performance skills. Although this model has principles that hold true for all sports and tasks, with the help of my mentors, I have developed it to cover the game of golf. The basic premise is that, given the correct environment, enhancing your golf game is a result of the correct blending of an individual’s efficiency in performance by ensuring the adoption of equal efficiency in enjoyment and learning levels.
It is here where the process needs to be well-thought out and purposeful: An extraordinary golf coach ensures that the required performance levels must be relevant to the enjoyment and learning levels of the student involved. Conversely, the attention to enjoyment and learning must be in the correct proportions for performance to reach its most advantageous levels - none of the points work in a vacuum, they are all finely interrelated.
