FEARLESS GOLF

Can it be sustained?

The secret to playing fearless golf lies in heightening your awareness of the level of fear you feel on the run up to and during each swing.

On the private member page I describe a specific swing trigger which I encourage all my students to use immediately before starting their golf swings.

This gives them a second or two to activate this awareness and they monitor both the level of fear and when it starts.

I hear many sportsmen insisting that we need a certain amount of fear to improve our concentration which in turn leads to a better performance.

"Oh, you really think so, do you?"

I am fortunate to find myself # 'in the zone' quite often when I play and can quite emphatically state that my fear level must register zero immediately before and during this state.

...And it is only when fear shows its ugly head that I drop out of the zone.

Think about it, when you were playing your best golf and were loving every second out there -- almost like walking on air -- I bet you didn't realise that you were experiencing golf without fear.

So why do most golfers play this wonderful game in fear?

Not just minor levels of fear but blinding and numbing levels!

And I am no exception to this. You are reading a report from a coach who could barely pluck up the courage to demonstrate a mere three foot putt for his students.

My fear levels used to register about a twelve on a scale from one to ten.

So how did I change?

Once again, you will have to go to the private member page for that particular information!

# In the zone: Athletes often call this experience 'playing out of one's mind,' a phrase that indicates an absense of mental interference. They report to being at their best when they are not thinking, their minds are crystal clear and they are experiencing very high awareness. Quite simply the less conscious thought in the mind, the better the chances for pure and precise action.
