Five putts from a yard away.

Oh that hurt!
I am sure this is not the only example of taking five putts from only three feet away from the hole, but I bet it is the only one where the yips were not involved.
I was playing the fifth hole at Lochgreen in Troon, Scotland. If any of you know the course it is a long and tricky par four.
The par three sixth sits about twenty feet above the back of the green and on that particular medal day it was swarming with onlookers and groups waiting to play.
I had just played a fantastic 3 wood that came to rest a yard from the pin. Oh how great it felt walking up to the green and to cap it off a few onlookers were holding their thumbs up to me.
Now I am making no excuses but as I approached what I thought was an easy tap in, my heart sank as the I realised I had an awkward, quick breaking, left to righter.
The greens were lightening fast that day and I couldn't believe it when two shots later I was back where I started.
To cut a long story short, another after two shots, I found myself about to tap in for a triple bogey seven instead of the birdie I had already mentally recorded on my scorecard for that day.
I do believe this could fall into the category of a 'putting nightmare.'
