Flat Left Wrist
You can vastly increase your power if you can keep a flat left wrist. It is when I heard this being repeated continually on Greg McHatton's instructional CD that my attention was aroused.
It is the condition that is created in the right wrist that increases power but the left wrist condition controls the direction.
In the introduction to 'The Golfing Machine', Homer Kelley writes,
"The number one alignment is the Flat Wrist, it is a golfing imperative. Without it any more information leads to more confusion."
He repeats this warning throughout the book and reminds the reader to master the flat wrist before continuing with his very special instruction.
Homer played his first round of golf as a young man and shot something around 120 strokes for 18 holes. He then withdrew from playing the game and instead turned his curiosity to the mechanical side of the game.
Being somewhat of an inventor, he began making early notes on the concepts that would evolve into 'The Golfing Machine'. He recognised and created solutions that seemed to elude others and demonstrated problem solving skills that came so naturally to him.
Once he had built the backbone of his golfing machine he hit the fairways once more and, playing only his second round of golf, managed to shoot a remarkable four over 76.
The rest is history and the great swingers and coaches of today hail his writings as the best instruction manual on the mechanics of the golf swing.
