A Golf Tip

Just to smooth out the lumps!

I mainly use this particular drill just before I play a round of golf. That would ideally be on the driving range where I could hit a few balls. As some of us don't have this facility, we have to settle for the side of the first tee where we can only make some warm-up swings.

The drill itself involves activating your mind and body monitors simultaneously. I usually receive strong signals from both with my practice swing and quite easily achieve calm and even feedback waves.

When a glitch shows up on either monitor, I will identify which one is responsible and address just where or when it happens. The fact that I am aware of such a glitch puts me in a strong position to do something about it.

So what is to be done?

Let me explain this with a real example. Last summer I was struggling with my shorter irons and quite often would pull them left.

I decided to work on this on the range but soon realised that the problem only unfolded on the course in pressure situations. This wasn't a swing fault but a swing yip that was occurring and in these situations I use this free lesson swing tip. I decided this had to be addressed during a game.

On the course, I would switch on both monitors (simply by shifting my awareness in this direction) and expect to feel a glitch somewhere in my swing. With my practice swing it showed up on my body monitor near impact and seemed to be coming from my hands. I took two more practice swings and managed to smooth it out.

I approached the ball, left both monitors activated and hit my shot. Although a slight glitch showed up on my body monitor, a peak resembling Mount Everest appeared on my mind monitor.

These are the tricky ones as they totally overwhelm the feedback coming from my body and dull the sense of feeling the swing. In order to feel this again I had to find out where and when the mind monitor was peaking.

With each subsequent shot I managed to locate the crackling interference and as I said earlier this puts me in a strong position to do something about it. But what is it that I do exactly? Well that's not entirely true, I leave my monitors on and by being aware of the feedback they are receiving, the mountain eventually flattens all by itself.

I fully expect you to get the same effects yourself, but you can only achieve this if you go out there and switch on your awareness monitors.
