Golf club design is just plain clever!

Most golfers don’t fully relate to one important dynamic of the golf club design.

It does help to be clear about this and the following abbreviated explanation is sufficient for the mind finger exercise.

The golf club is designed with a sole or blunt edge which should be used to whip or swipe along the ground, grass or sand immediately before, after or at impact with the ball.

When this is done, the clubface makes contact with the ball and this produces the desired result.

With the practice swing the mind finger is taking all the feedback from the club sole. However, when we swing with the ball the feedback is switched to the clubface.

The biggest problem is that we perform this contact with the ground, much more efficiently with the practice swing.

Why?

Try it again. That’s exactly what you’re doing. You are of course only human.

With the ball your attention switches to the clubface.

It is however a little unfortunate as these two attempts are also two different swings. With the practice swing, you’re whipping the grass with the club sole and with the other, you’re trying to hit the ball with the club face.

Yes, I hear what you’re saying. You can’t really feel any difference in the two swings but, nevertheless, being honest you do know somehow there is.

That’s where the ring finger feedback exercise reveals the truth. It has now been pointed out and it is pretty clear that you are reacting or swinging differently with the ball.

You are now ready to resume the mind finger exercise and be more aware of the feedback you are getting during all swings, be that practice or with the ball.
