I Feel It Is
The short and simple task on this golf for enlightenment page is to swing and feel the smoothness. As we are tackling awareness issues here, we are going to try to feel the mental smoothness, which should lead to this enlightenment. I relay this to many students who benefit from this simple exercise, not only in improving their golf, but in other sports and many differing aspects of life.
In this exercise we return once again to the back-hit or one-two repetition drill.
'One' at the end of the back swing, not just somewhere near the end but exactly at the transition from the end to the start of the downswing.
And 'two' at impact. I prefer to say the 't' at impact and let the 'oo' flow into the follow-through.
I am very aware of the timing and also my tonality. I feel for smooth poetry in my motion and try to detect any strain in my voice or mistiming.
By dropping down to a half or three quarter swing, I find this exercise much easier to control. We are so obsessed with fully turning, coiling and hitting that we rarely listen to our bodies.
Give your body the best chance to achieve these two easy tasks (timing and tonality) and reward yourself with a game that exceeds your expectations.
