Improve your followthrough...
golf swing mechanics

Or at least be aware of it.

Your followthrough - sometimes called the throughswing - is a vital part of the swing. You can read interesting facts on this page about this and can expect great improvement when they are employed.

You must swing through to a good finish on all your shots. This promotes accuracy and power and helps you to keep smooth rhythm and balance.

Unfortunately most golfers are concentrating so hard on hitting the ball that they switch off at impact and never really feel the followthru.

They quit the swing at the ball thus losing power and of course distance.

Your swing does not finish when you hit the ball. Your golf swing is complete when your body turns around to a balanced finish after impact.

I advise my students that the finish is the main part of the swing where we can quite easily feel and correct jerkiness and imbalance.

I tell them to look for clues in their throughswing to improve swing faults. Here are four qualities that stand out in a good finish:

Head forced up.

Your head is forced uo as your right shoulder comes around. This lets your arms swing swing the club around your body to the finish.

Weight transfer.

After impact your body must keep turning and your weight should transfer to the left. At the same time your right shoulder should swivel in the same direction

Club head speed.

It is a point just after impact that club head should reach top speed. It is this speed with proper weight transfer that forces your head up and carries you to the finish position.

Balance.

You should finish steady on your feet. Most of your weight is on the outside of your left foot with your right foot almost vertical displaying all your shoe spikes to anyone behind you. Something like this.

When I am working on my throughswing, I hold my finish until the ball has reached the top of its flight or if need be until it lands or stops.

This gives me time to feel the four followthrough qualities that I listed above. When I feel them properly I can also correct them.

Build your own Website!

About 2 years ago I began to wonder how I could create a profitable website and stumbled upon a system called SBI. If you are interested in making money online, or want to create your own website, I highly recommend this service. Without their fantastic training and tools my 'Golf Tips' site would not have been possible.
