Learning to Trust Your Game

Play without a care in the world.
I have played golf for over 30 years but have only recently began to really enjoy the game.
You see I was always really competitive and all of my efforts used to be focused on winning the match or shooting the lowest score I possibly could.
The funny thing was that even when I managed to win a match or shoot a low round I was never satisfied with my performance.
Over the past year or so I have been reading about the mental side of the game (I was only interested in the swing until recently) and have come across some really interesting books and websites, such as this one.
During the course of my studies the one thing that stands out for me more than anything else as a way of improving your game without involving mechanics is learning to trust what you already have.
In fact I now believe that it is not possible to improve without first finding out where you are/stand and that can only be achieved when you trust your game and simply go out and play rather than trying to win or shoot a low score.
Finally, the real bonus is that when I trust and don't really try that hard I seem to enjoy the round even when I don't play to my potential and golf just seems like an effortless walk in the park.
The way it should be!
