It should be magical...

For all children

For Leela this transition was probably going to be magical and quite difficult at the same time. Lets face it she had become a very good player on the short par three golf course for beginners and kids. She started the season with a handicap of 45 and for many this can be quite difficult to play to.

I was however pretty sure that she was ready for the change and we were both looking forward to showing the adults how its done.

So on Sunday the 15th April 2005, out she went on her first tournament and coped very well with the wet conditions and long course and came in second in her class.

Her next tournament was the regional kids challenge and she finished a very respectable 4th in her class. Before the month was over she managed to play down to 39.

By the end of June she was down to 25 after two more impressive wins and by this time she was starting to accumulate quite a trophy cabinet.

July turned out to be her best month and she played down to an unbelievable 18.5 which turned out to have stretched her to her limit.

(Funnily enough, in July she won everthing she played in apart from my own Pro-shop sponsored tournament at the end of the month)

August was a rather uneventful month and also a chance to rest her a little after a very full program. We also knew that the club championship was looming at the beginning of September, and we were hoping that this would turn out to be the highlight of her season.

And it was. She played very well and finished in the top five, making the cut and qualifying for the final round, which was quite an achievement for a ten year old.

The rest of the season was again rather uneventful and she finished her first season on a very satisfying 18.7, much better than I had expected.
