Need a coach?
Then take a few minutes to read this!
Do you need a coach to re-energize your golfing experience?
In the past, in this situation, I have had to coach myself. These days I can turn to
Leela
because she is competent in the basics of the coaching method, which I have discussed on this website. In fact, for my own personal needs, she coaches better than most of the so called experts because she hasn't adopted any of the, what I call, damaged versions of coaching that are out there.
I wish I had learned to play golf exactly as Leela has and like her had enjoyed access to a coach who uses this method.
But
how does Leela know
if she is swinging competently or correctly with this method?
She just does, or putting it even simpler, we all do!
Please let me explain. The fact is, we rarely question this competence or correctness when we are walking, running, jumping, swinging an axe, brushing our teeth, riding a bike, or doing any other motor skill.
You see, we have learned all of these skills without masses of verbal instruction on the biomechanics. And with no apparent effort or distress, they just stay learned. By this I mean we don't forget how to do them, we rarely get worse at them (other than through the natural aging process or injury) and even when we haven't done them for a long time, we quickly find our former levels of proficiency.
I have devoted much of my time in search of a
coaching technique
for golf that can produce similar results. And the secret lies in using rather straightforward inner game skills. This has developed into this coaching method with little verbal instruction on the biomechanics and, as I mentioned earlier, is exactly how children (and adults) best learn all motor skills.
The secret lies in using
non-judgemental feedback
which is a fine art practiced by too few coaches. Many of my colleagues condemn this art stating that its all too nice and positive. Non-judgemental should not and is not nice or positive, it is in fact totally unbiased.
I also practice a
well developed method
of experiencing through experimentation. This involves balancing the level of the following three qualities:
- Learning
- Enjoyment
- Performance
The LEP Triangle
When you consider anything that an individual excels in, it is almost always what they enjoy most. Just why some students prefer a certain subject or task and others prefer something else is a different discussion. But! You just know that the subject/task they
enjoy
most usually rates highest on learning and performance levels too.
In these high-tech times of quick change we are unfortunately directed and motivated by performance goals, which severely disrupt the balance of The LEP Triangle. (This triangle has developed into one of the strongest of human resources. This resource is as old as intellegence itself and through evolution continues to develop and improve. We are only beginning to realise just how powerful this resource is and how this near perfect process should not be altered) All goals are easiest to achieve when the focus is on enjoyment, such as enjoying the following:
- A new challenge.
- Meeting new people.
- Anything relating to nature.
- Learning a new skill.
- Peace and freedom.
... and many more.
But what if a student finds it difficult to enjoy a certain subject or task?
Well that's where a good coach comes in!
His skill lies in his ability to aid a student's focus on learning, using tasks such as:
- Staying in the present.
- Improving concentration.
- Using the five senses with heightened awareness.
- Feeling and monitoring rhythm and balance.
- Improving confidence.
... and many more.
Improvements in the levels of learning, in turn lead to improvement in enjoyment levels and then performance levels improve automatically. The LEP Triangle always levels out when either learning or enjoyment are addressed. And when this balance is achieved, performance excels.
To finish, or to get to the point, this is a subject that is discussed at length throughout this website and I will continue to write about the magic it offers. I have however written this page because of requests from many readers to be offered coaching from me in person.
At first I was hesitant about putting such a page together as I was of the opinion that the
private member area
, which offers wonderful insights into this method, was the best option that I could offer my readers.
I have however been encouraged to offer my personal coaching skills directly to you because it is during face to face communication that the real magic happens.
I have also been persuaded that this opportunity exists because:
"Once this method has been learned it stays learned as it cannot be forgotten."
And
"The world today is so much more accessible as travelling is more affordable and flexible than ever before."
