Does your pre shot routine have...

A Swing Trigger?

For me the most important part of the pre shot routine is using a fool-proof swing trigger. Watch the top players, they all have little triggers that they use to initiate their swings, be that a putt, a chip or a full blooded drive.

Take a look at the folowing video caption where you can observe my routine and especially the little trigger I use to initiate every shot.

I have chosen my club and decided what sort of swing I am going to make.

I walk to the ball from behind the target line and adopt my GASP (grip, aim, stance and posture). This takes approximately 5 seconds.

I then make two or three, one piece backswing take-aways (looking at the real target) and then settle into take off position. There is nothing more to do or think about.

So when do I start to swing?

After a smooth swing trigger of course.

Can you see what I do?

Yes you've got it. It's the same as the trigger I use for every shot and you may have already seen it on the putting mastery page.

There's the ball, now for one more look at the target, OK it's still there, eyes back to the ball, it's still in the same place. OK...

Start swinging!

It's as simple as that, no messing about, when I am ready every pre shot routine that I make ends with this trigger. I turn, turn back and swing. There is just no time for doubts or interferences.

Copy this trigger or develop your own version and you will become a better player and have something enjoyable to do at this crucial moment.

Most golfers allow fear and loss of self-belief to come into the equation at this time. With a smooth swing trigger this can be emphatically reduced.
