I have put this putting mastery page together as special thank you for subscribing to my private member page. I am sure that if you adopt the easy preshot routine that I have developed for this stroke, you will achieve more enjoyment, and become better and more confident when you are putting.
As a youth, I thoroughly enjoyed putting but as I grew older, this magic stroke became, for me, a personal nightmare.
There is no doubt about it, over the years many of us have suffered pushing and pulling too many of those 2-4 footers past or short of the hole.
At times in my golfing life, more often than I would like to admit, I have went through a living hell staring at putts of 18 inches and longer. This routine with its principles, enabled me to put all of this behind me.
I must at this point thank my daughter Leela whose fearless attitude or perhaps plain naivety helped me to develop this putting mastery technique during our coaching sessions.
When you are performing any of the exercises I have written about on this website, do not forget to use the ring/mind finger for higher feedback and awareness.
Now, take a look at this video and then listen to the accompanying audio message where I explain the basics of this wonderful routine.
(You will need a little patience to let the video and sound files load. Open up another page simultaneously with this page, and turn down the sound on the control bars and return later when the downloads are complete.)
Go to this page.
Welcome back!
OK, your files should be ready. Turn down the sound on the video and turn up the sound on the audio to suit your personal preference.
Listen and watch and when you are familar with the content, you should then pause the video a few times to let the audio catch up with what is happening.
You will get the hang of it after a few tries.
When I demonstrate this routine to my students, a few good questions often pop up,
"Why do you hover the putter over the ball instead of to the side of the ball like the pros?"
I have two logical reasons for this:
1) I am moving my putter along the same line as I will when I drop it down behind the ball.
2) I do not have to re-position my feet after my practice swings.
"Why do you look at the target when you make your practice swings?"
Quite simply I have a better chance of finding the target when I look at it and can still visualise it when I look down at my ball.
If you can add more questions about this routine, I would be delighted to attempt to answer them.
To conclude, I hope you adopt this routine as I know it will help you to find a peaceful state during the toughest part of this game.
Once again, thanks for subscribing to the private member page.
